The recent tornado caused devastating damage across Appleton, Menasha and surrounding Fox Cities communities. Homes, businesses, vehicles and infrastructure were affected, leaving many of our neighbors facing repairs, displacement, interrupted operations and unexpected financial decisions.
At BLC Community Bank, our thoughts are with everyone impacted. We know recovery will take time; and that, right now, many people may not even know where to begin.
Between checking on loved ones, contacting insurance companies, documenting damage, arranging repairs and managing everyday responsibilities, it can feel like everything needs attention at once. Financial questions may arise along the way, and some may involve your banking relationship even when it is not immediately clear that they do.
You Do Not Need to Know Exactly What to Ask
If you or your business were affected by the tornado, please do not hesitate to reach out. You do not need to have the answers, all of your paperwork or a complete plan before calling. Start the conversation, and we will help you understand the banking-related steps from there.
When It May Make Sense to Contact BLC
Please reach out if the storm has affected your home, business, finances or ability to manage your accounts as usual. This could include:
- Questions about insurance checks, claim documents or repair-related paperwork connected to BLC
- Difficulty accessing your accounts, mail or important financial information
- Checks, debit cards or financial documents that were lost or damaged
- A temporary change in your address, phone number or contact information
- Unexpected expenses or changes that may affect your normal financial obligations
- Business interruptions, delayed income, property damage or cash-flow concerns
- Questions about whether BLC needs to be involved before repairs or insurance funds can move forward
You may also have a situation that is not listed here. That is okay. We would rather have you call and find out that nothing is needed than leave you trying to sort through the uncertainty alone.

Be Cautious of Storm-Related Scams
Disasters can unfortunately create opportunities for fraud. Be cautious of unexpected calls, texts, emails or in-person visitors offering insurance help, disaster assistance or urgent repair services. Before hiring a contractor or signing anything, verify the company’s identity, contact information, insurance coverage and reputation. Ask for a written estimate, review the terms carefully and avoid anyone who pressures you to act immediately or make a large upfront payment.
Never share account information, online banking credentials, verification codes or debit card details with someone who contacts you unexpectedly. When in doubt, end the conversation and verify the company or organization independently before moving forward.
